January 14, 2021

January 13, 2020

We’re just a week away from the first #BANvWI ODI. We have so many potential debutants, WIPA decided to get some intel, just for you 😉

Our first feature will be on Kyle Rico Mayers, aka ‘Dappa’, 28 years old, from St Thomas & St James, Barbados, called to both the ODI & Test teams.

Q&A

When and where did you start playing cricket?

I started playing cricket from the time I could walk, officially, I started at the Carlton Cricket Club while coming to watch my dad play.

What inspired you to keep going over the years?

Cricket runs in my family – from both my mom and dad’s side, so coming up I grew to love the game but becoming a dad pushed me even more to go all the way.

What was your reaction to hearing the news?

While I was out I with some friends I got the call. After, I told them that I was selected we all shared that happy moment together. It was a great feeling… a feeling of joy and relief knowing that the work put in had paid off.

How does it feel so far?

It feels great to be here representing the Caribbean. It’s something I dreamt of as a child and being able to be here at the highest level and making my family and friends proud is always a great feeling.

If called upon to make your debut, what do you hope to deliver?

I hope to make valuable contributions to the team by putting my best foot forward and playing some hard cricket.

What are you looking forward to most from the tour?

I am looking forward to the challenge of international cricket and also gaining experience and knowledge.

What Inspirational/Motivational Quotes do you live by?

Congrats and go well Kyle!
