KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) heartily celebrates the West Indies Men’s team on their historic victory over Pakistan in Pakistan, their first Test victory in Pakistan since 1990 – over 34 years.
West Indies secured victory in the second Test of the two-Test series by 120 runs in Multan, Pakistan, on Monday, January 27, 2025, before lunch on the third day’s play, to tie the series 1-1. The West Indies squad, still mainly young and inexperienced, had useful contributions from several players in very tough conditions to secure the win.
In the first innings, a defiant maiden half-century (55) from Gudakesh Motie (batting at #9), and 36* from Jomel Warrican (batting at #11) helped the West Indies to a competitive total (163) after being in early trouble. Warrican and Motie then put up a stellar bowling effort to take a combined seven (7) wickets to bowl Pakistan out and maintain a small first innings lead. West Indies’ second innings got off to a good start, with 52 from captain Kraigg Brathwaite and 30 from debutant Amir Jangoo. With valuable runs from Tevin Imlach (35), Kevin Sinclair (28) and again Gudakesh Motie (18) and Jomel Warrican (18), West Indies posted 244, setting Pakistan a target of 254. In a hurry, Warrican bagged 5 wickets, Sinclair 3, and Motie 2, to secure a comprehensive victory.
“Whole-hearted congratulations to the West Indies Men’s Test team on this momentous victory”, remarked WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds, “These young players continue to perform well in very challenging circumstances. We commend coach Andre Coley, captain Kraigg Brathwaite and the entire squad for their accomplishments, and wish them continued success.”
