KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) proudly commends West Indies Women’s captain Hayley Matthews on being designated Wisden’s Leading T20 Cricketer in the World for 2023.

Matthews copped the award for an outstanding eight (8) consecutive T20I Player of the Match awards as well as 1,551 T20 runs (international and domestic) and 57 wickets. The highlight of the year included a fantastic showing against Australia, blazing 132 from 64 balls in a run-chase of 213, resulting in the highest ever successful run-chase in women’s T20Is. Hayley also captained the winning team for the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) and was part of the winning team for India’s Women’s Premier League (WPL). Hayley is the first female winner of the Wisden’s Leading T20 Cricketer in the World award.

WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds, said, “Hayley Matthews had an extraordinary 2023 as an athlete and this recognition is well-deserved. On behalf of the association, I proudly commend Hayley, and look forward to even more remarkable things from her in the future”.
